NOTES CLIENT INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE
After you register users, and determine various policy settings for users, decide how to deploy client installations for users.
On Microsoft® Windows®, single users can use the Allclient install kit to install all three clients -- the Notes client, IBM® Lotus® Domino® Administrator client, and IBM® Lotus® Domino® Designer.
Multi-user install is available on Windows, Linux®, Citrix®, and Apple® Mac OS X®. Multi-user install does not support installation of the Domino Designer or Domino Administrator clients.
As an administrator, you can customize the installation process for your users so that they install the features that they need. You can customize installation using tuner capabilities, for example if you want to install Notes multi-user using a silent installation method. You can also customize installation of Eclipse™-based features using the install manifest resident in the Notes install kit, for example if you want to remove the Composite Application Editor from the installer.
Note Tuner customization is available for an MSI install kit, such as the Notes install kit for the Windows platform, and was the primary install customization method prior to the introduction of the Notes (standard configuration) client in release 8.0. Install kit customization using the install manifest in combination with the supplied updateSite.zip provides additional options for controlling which supplied or third party features can be installed in a Notes (standard configuration) install or upgrade. See "Customizing the Notes install kit" and "Customizing Notes install using the tuner" for details.
Before you begin installing Notes, make sure that you or your users do the following:
To successfully install, upgrade, and use Notes, users must be allowed both Write and Modify permissions to the program directory, data directory, and all associated subdirectories. Assign appropriate access rights to your Notes client users.
You must be logged in as an administrative or root user with administrative privileges.
For related information about login prior to install, see the software requirements topic in the current release notes.
Note Windows users should log onto their client with administrative rights to install or upgrade Notes. For cases in which administrative rights are not available, enable the setting "Always install with elevated privileges." The setting "Always install with elevated privileges" is a Microsoft Windows setting that is part of Window's User Policies. Refer to your Microsoft Windows documentation for details.
Note Options for installing the Notes on Restricted or Standard/Power user computers are described in the Windows Installer documentation.
