NOTES CLIENT INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE

Reducing Notes startup time using GNOME for auto-start on Linux
The Linux operating system can automatically start programs when the user logs in. If you enable IBM® Lotus® Notes® to start automatically when the user logs in to the client system's operating system, you can reduce Notes start-up time using the following procedure.

Note This procedure uses the supplied ntspreld.sh script, which calls the ntspreld program during Notes auto-start. The ntspreld program preloads several key libraries used by Notes to reduce Notes startup time.

1. Install or upgrade Notes on the Linux operating system client but do not start Notes.

2. Navigate to the Notes installation directory, for example /opt/ibm/lotus/notes and locate the ntsspreld.sh script.

3. On the GNOME desktop, click Computer - Control Center - Sessions - Startup Programs.

4. Click Add Options and add the ntsspreld.sh script to the Startup Programs list.

5. Save and exit the Startup Programs dialog and restart the client system.

When you log in to the Linux client, Notes will automatically preload several key libraries start and its startup time will be reduced.
