NOTES CLIENT INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE

Installing the Multilingual User Interface (MUI) pack
Use these general instructions, in conjunction with more specific instructions in the readme file in the MUI pack installation media, when running the Multilingual User Interface (MUI) pack installation program. Also see the readme for command line installation instructions, available MSI properties, and any known limitations of caveats.

1. Ensure that you have installed or upgraded to the latest version IBM® Lotus® Notes® client.

2. Ensure that you are logged in as an administrative user.

3. Exit the Notes client.

4. Locate and start the MUI pack executable.

5. In the Notes Client Information dialog, verify if the detected Notes client is correct

6. In the Custom Setup dialog, select the language(s) you want to add to the Notes client.

7. In the User Interface Language dialog, select a user interface language, a local template, and help file language if you want to replace the original selection. Replacing existing templates and help files with selected ones is recommended if you prefer to use fully translated user interface. This dialog appears only when you have installed a Single-user Notes client.

8. In the Ready to Install dialog, click Install.

Notes multi-user installation with the MUI pack

The Notes user interface files are installed in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\MUI\language-iso (*)

On Windows XP, the Notes template, modem, and help files are installed in the following subdirectory:

C:\Document Setting\All Users\Application Data\Lotus\Data\Shared\mui\language-iso (*)

On Windows Vista™, the Notes template, modem, and help files are installed in the following subdirectory:

C:\ProgramData\Lotus\Notes\Data\Shared\mui\language-iso (*)

Note The "language-iso (*)" represents a language identifier. Language identifiers are Arabic (ar), Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR), Catalan (ca), Czech (cs), Danish (da), Dutch (nl), Finnish (fi), French (fr), German (de), Greek (el), Hebrew (he), Hungarian (hu), IB Portuguese (pt-PT), IB Portuguese (pt-PT), Italian (it), Japanese (ja), Korean (ko), Norwegian (no), Polish (pl), Russian (ru), Simplified Chinese (zh-CN), Slovakian (sk), Slovenian (sl), Spanish (es), Swedish (sv), Thai (th), Traditional Chinese (zh-TW), Turkish (tr).

In a Notes multi-user install, when a user starts the Notes client for the first time, the user interface and database language are determined by the user's operating system locale setting. If the locale language is not found in the directory \mui, the English user interface is used and English databases are created to set up the Notes client. If the locale language files of the Notes client have not been installed, the user interface language of the Notes setup and local databases defaults to English.

For example, in a multi-user installation, if you add French and Japanese files with a MUI pack, the user interface files are installed in individual directories such as these:

C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\MUI\fr

C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\MUI\ja

For a Windows XP installation, the templates and help files are installed in the next directory, as shown

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Shared\mui\fr

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Shared\mui\ja

Notes single-user installation with the MUI pack

In a Notes single user install, the user interface language of the Notes setup and of the local databases is the same as the language of the installed Notes client.

The MUI pack adds language files to the following directories:

C:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes\MUI\language-iso (*)

Note The "language-iso (*)" represents a language identifier. Language identifiers are Arabic (ar), Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR), Catalan (ca), Czech (cs), Danish (da), Dutch (nl), Finnish (fi), French (fr), German (de), Greek (el), Hebrew (he), Hungarian (hu), IB Portuguese (pt-PT), IB Portuguese (pt-PT), Italian (it), Japanese (ja), Korean (ko), Norwegian (no), Polish (pl), Russian (ru), Simplified Chinese (zh-CN), Slovakian (sk), Slovenian (sl), Spanish (es), Swedish (sv), Thai (th), Traditional Chinese (zh-TW), Turkish (tr).

In the install wizard dialog, you can select two options -- "User Interface Language" and "Replace Local template/Help files." For specific installation considerations and instructions, see the readme in the MUI pack distribution kit.
