DATABASE MANAGEMENT

The Domino Attachment and Object Service (DAOS)
In the IBM® Lotus® Domino® Server document, the value in the "Store file attachments in DAOS" field on the DAOS tab disables or enables the operation of the Domino Attachment and Object Service as soon as the Server document is saved.

The Show Server command tells you which databases on the server are enabled for DAOS and therefore participating in attachment consolidation. The following table describes the information that displays in the report for that command, and the effects of each possible value on new and existing file attachments.
ValueExplanation
Not EnabledDAOS is currently disabled on this server and has not yet been enabled. No file attachments exist in the DAOS repository, and all attachments are stored in their full size in documents.
Read OnlyDAOS is currently disabled on this server. Because DAOS was previously enabled, file attachments exist in the DAOS repository, and are read when documents containing them are retrieved. New copies of any attachments, whether or not the originals are already stored in DAOS, are stored in documents instead of in the DAOS repository.
EnabledDAOS is currently enabled on this server.

If any file attachments have been created in participating databases since enabling this option, they exist in the DAOS repository.

Note If you select NSF for the field "Store file attachments in DAOS" after DAOS has already been enabled and running, any files already stored in the DAOS repository remain there. When documents containing those file attachments are retrieved, the attachments are read from the DAOS repository but can no longer be modified there.
