USER AND SERVER CONFIGURATION
When a roaming user logs on from any Notes client their ID file is accessed from the local file system, their Contacts application or from the Domino ID vault according to how the administrator configured the user account. The user's roaming-enabled files include contacts, bookmarks, notebook or journal, feeds subscriptions, and roaming data which stores roamed Eclipse™ plug-in data and settings. These files are replicated locally from the user's roaming server. Any changes the user makes in these files replicates back to the roaming server. This enables the roaming user to have a consistent experience from any Notes client.
Note Switching user IDs is not supported for roaming users. Notes client users enabled for roaming should not switch to another user ID by using the File - Security - Switch ID menu options nor should they choose another Location document that switches to another user ID. Switching user IDs can cause unintentional user downgrade from roaming. If you use multiple user IDs on the same computer, roaming is not supported.
Note Roaming user IDs are not supported with Notes Single Logon (NSL).
Additional and related Notes roaming user information is available in the Lotus Support Site in posts such as "Knowledge Collection: Roaming User functionality in Notes/Domino" and the Notes and Domino wiki.
Data for roaming users replicates between the user's client system and a roaming server, where their roamed files, including their contacts, bookmarks, notebook or journal, feeds subscriptions, and roaming data which stores roamed Eclipse™ plug-in data and settings.
If you start one of the IBM Lotus Symphony™ editors before starting Notes, in a single Notes session, some Notes preferences will not be available for roaming in that Notes session. To ensure that all possible Notes preferences are available for roaming in your current Notes session, be sure to start Notes before starting Lotus Symphony.
Domino server roaming and file server roaming are available for Notes users on supported Microsoft Windows 32-bit platforms, Linux platforms, and on the Apple® Mac OS X® platform.
The roaming user feature for Notes standard configuration is available with either Domino server roaming or file server roaming. Use the registration process to register a user as a Domino server roaming user. Use the roaming policy settings document to configure Notes standard configuration users for file server roaming.
When upgrading to or downgrading from Domino server roaming, always use the roaming tools available from the Administration client, People and Groups tab - Tools - People. When upgrading to or downgrading from file server roaming, always use policies.
