NOTES CLIENT INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE

Considerations for enabling GB18030 support on Windows XP
Simplified Chinese (GB18030) characters may not display properly in IBM® Lotus® Notes® running on Windows XP. To enable GB18030 support on a Microsoft® Windows XP client, do the following:

1. Install the language support for Simplified Chinese on any non-Simplified Chinese version of Windows.

2. Click Start -- Control Panel -- Regional and Language Options.

3. On the Languages tab, check Install files for East Asian languages.

4. Install the GB18030 support package; see the GB18030 Support Package on Microsoft Download Center related link.

To enable GB18030 font linking, do the following:

5. Click Start -- Run.

6. In the Run text box, type regedt32 to open the registry.

7. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontLink\SystemLink].

8. Double-click Tahoma.

9. Add "SimSun18030.ttc,SimSun-18030", in a new line, in the edit box.

10. Double-click Arial.

11. Add "SimSun18030.ttc,SimSun-18030", in a new line, in the edit box.

12. Click OK to restart the computer.

Font linking provides the ability to render non-Latin characters when the font set by the application does not support those particular characters. It is suitable when an application cannot use a single font to render all the required characters.

Note If you use the Registry Editor incorrectly, you can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.

To enable the GB18030 dialog font, do the following:

13. Right click in the desktop and click Properties.

14. Click the Appearance tab on the Display Properties dialog.

15. Click Advanced.

16. On the Advance Appearance dialog, click Item then SimSun-18030 font.

17. Click OK on the Advanced Appearance dialog.

18. Click OK on the Display Properties dialog.

Changing the CSS user interface font in the plugin_customization.ini file

A Notes user can override the CSS user interface font by adding the following statement to the com.ibm.notes.branding/notes_plugin_customization.ini file.

com.ibm.rcp.ui/UI_FONT_FACE

For example, to set the Notes user interface font to "SimSun-18030" instead of using the CSS font, add the following line to the com.ibm.notes.branding/notes_plugin_customization.ini file.

com.ibm.rcp.ui/UI_FONT_FACE=SimSun-1803
