NOTES CLIENT INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE
The NCI is required to install portlets on the server and for Notes client communication with the WebSphere Portal server. For example, if you want users to edit a portal-based composite application using the Composite Application Editor, you must first run the NCI installation program on the WebSphere Portal server. This installation program also installs the .war files that are required by the Composite Applications Editor when it works with the WebSphere Portal server.
If your users create composite applications that include portlets, you must install NCI. You can then create a Home Portal Account for those Notes users, allowing them to create, edit, and view composite applications that contain portlets. Users can obtain help about creating or modifying a Home Portal Account using the preferences panel in their Notes online Help system.
For Notes 8.5.1 and greater, instructions for installing the NCI are available in "Installing the Network Client Installer" in the IBM Lotus Expeditor Information Center or Lotus Expeditor Wiki.
Note Notes 8.0 through 8.5 users that will be communicating with a Portal server that has NCI (as opposed to SCI) installed must add the following preference to their notes_install_dir/framework/rcp/plugin_customization.ini file:
